Underground Railroad Sampler quilt

Hi All
Here is is my 3rd block of the Underground Railroad Sampler quilt. It came out with slightly wonky spokes but I'm guessing that in the 1800's, the wheels weren't always perfect so I'm happy with it.

This is called the Wagon Wheel.

Here is J's Friendship Swap block - theme Leaves

I've done a row-by-row and a 17x17 inch block for another Round Robin group but I can't post these photos yet until they have been received....

Hi All
It seems like such a long time since I last posted a message but I've been busy, busy, busy with work and life..... I've done lots of little projects over the past weeks for swaps I've been in and also received my Poppies blocks from my PP Friendship Swap group which are all gorgeous - just my own block to make now....

I had a great birthday this year thanks to all the lovely hand-made birthday cards and B&W fabric gifts from the PP Birthday Club which was fantastic - and I received some other beautiful fabrics as well as Hobbycraft vouchers, as well as lots of other lovely cards and presents off family and friends, so thanks to everyone for a great birthday!

And hooray! I managed to finish both Brennan's and Jet's Halloween Quilts and delivered them today....both Brennan and Jet said they were 'awesome', so thumbs up x 2!

Another PP project I'm involved with is the Underground Railway Sampler Quilt blocks of which we have completed 2 from the set and here are the 2 blocks so far - Jacob's Ladder and Monkey Wrench .........

A lot has been going on at work which has been challenging for want of a better word but hopefully things will settle down soon and then before we know it, it'll be Christmas again.
I know some of you are having a tough time of it at the moment so I want to wish you well soon. Positive thoughts are coming your way to Liverpool and Canada from me and my family.
Lots of hugs from

A Sofa quilt for my niece

Hi All
I've also finished my niece's quilt and she has received it safely which I'm relieved about, and she loves it though it seemed she was confused as she thought I was making her a set of 6" storage bags...heehee! I chose the theme as she was an Autumn baby and she chose the fabric for her "bags" so it will hopefully go with her decor too!
Here it is -

Daughter's birthday present

Hi All
Well today my baby is 34 years old...but shhhh! I'm not supposed to tell anyone...hahaha.
I bought her presents some weeks ago but couldn't go empty-handed so I made her some cushions to go with her much loved B&W quilt I made for her last year. And of course it just had to be the Beatles... She is delighted with them as it was a total surprise.

Friendship Swaps

Hi All
As usual work is mega-busy and I still have to find the balance between work-life as I am not getting enough time to do much quilting. I am focussing on smaller projects at the moment until I get some extra time which means that I have done an 8inch square x 5 blocks - Row by Row for A, and another 2010 PP Friendship block for P, so the good news is I'm up-to-date with them.
Here are the photos of these -

And Another Bag....

Hi All
I took my bag to work to show a colleague and it was snapped up within seconds..... hahaha! and an order for another in same fabric for a friend upcountry.

I had already started a second one in a Michael Miller fabric which I love and I so wanted a bag in this fabric but when I made it - I didn't like it much afterall. Strange how you can love the fabric but dislike the end product... so I showed my friend and the money was in my hand double quick....
Here is the second of my bags -

What! No proper sewing for a month.....

Hi All
I have finally done some 'proper' sewing. The only sewing I did up to today was a friendship block. I've been so busy at work and having tried to drop some meds (with permission from my Doctor) I became unwell a few days ago and had to resume them again. Doh! But feel a lot better today so hopefully back on track again.

As I've had to rest, I thought I'd do some bookmark presents and a postcard for a colleague who has a special birthday. Then I thought I may attempt a bag from my new book which I love - "The Perfect Handmade Bag" by Clare Youngs - 35 bags to make by recycling fabrics. I really love the bag and it's perfect for the summer and so easy to make. I kind of recycled some fabric from my stash so I feel that counts ..... Anyway here's my bag and other things from today.

Bank Holiday weekend and rain

Hi All
Another typical Bank holiday weekend weather here - heavy and persistent rain, grey skies and very cold.

I've had a few busy weeks with preparing for my new job role and new location so I'm really tired and haven't done any sewing in the past 2 weeks. The last thing I did was a 'House' block for Cathy in New Zealand and she loves it because I included some residents, one of whom is very special to her.....her beautiful new baby grandson.

I'm trying to do a clean sweep/spring clean and get rid of all the things that take up cupboard space but don't get used, but it's a very slow job. I wonder how much will be put away again...

My hall ceiling is being replaced this week after flood damage and then I can get the hall decorated and new carpeting down. Also my garden decking project should be resumed again when the weather sorts itself out so I can use it this 'summer'......if we get one! I got some Black Bamboo plants for screening behind the decking and black pebbles to go around the base of them, and a couple of other plants so I'm looking forward to seeing it transformed soon.

Life thus far......

Hi All
I am still not in my job as yet until 1st May so that is still ongoing but hopefully I'll be able to get on with it soon and I have been making preparation for the change in venue etc.

I had to make something very quickly last night as I found out it was a colleagues birthday today...plenty of notice NOT! So I had to pull something out of the bag fast and made 3 simple bookmarks for her. She said she'd never seen fabric bookmarks and loves them and is going to use them for her Bibles which is nice.
Here they are -

I called them "Serengeti", "A Hint of Monet", and "Safari"and they were well received, thank goodness, and I did buy her a present too as well.

V&A Museum trip

Hi All
I went to visit the V&A exhibition of 1700-2010 Quilts in London on Tuesday. I really enjoyed it and loved a lot of the quilts on show. The stories were so interesting but my favourite has to be the RAJAH quilt and the history behind it, closely followed by the quilts made by men, soldiers in hospital and prisoners. It's amazing how so many people have used and use quilting as a form of therapy and to see how much they get from it and their finished quilts was quite moving. The fabrics and colours were fantastic and the trip to the gift shop was another high when I chose my gorgeous fabrics....and here they are -

I love the blue colourways of the designs and opted for ½ metre pieces so that's another future project......and in the meantime they can join my projects-in-waiting of 2 x Jelly Rolls and my Charm pack and Fat Quarter packs x 3.

Here's what I've been working on this Easter weekend

Hi All
This Easter weekend I've made a set of Storage bags from the Feb 2010 issue of PP magazine. I made these as a gift for a friend who loved the fabrics and I've varied the sizes so they can stack away easily into the larger bag.

Hope she likes them when she gets them tomorrow. If not I'll have them myself hahaha!
And a little one for me............

So far so good

Hi All

Today I was offered my Senior Post at the other branch of the college which is quite isolated where public transport is concerned however, the college are looking at a minibus to keep staff safe who work there, so all good so far....

Just the formalities to finalise then we can get on with our jobs again......and breathe too of course! Most of my colleagues that I spoke to got their jobs too thank goodness but staff at work are still going through the process and others are waiting to follow.....not a year we will want to repeat at all, or that we will forget!

Job interview

Hi again
Today I had my interview to retain a job at work as they have merged with another college. We've all had to apply for our jobs, so we are all feeling the stress...well, the interview sort of went ok but it's so hard to predict and we have another week or more wait for feedback. More waiting and stressing. I'm trying to forget about it now as there's no more I can do. Watch this space for update! Going to see my grandchildren tomorrow so that'll cheer me up!

My gift from Lisa at 'Cobblestone Cabin'

Hi All
I was the lucky winner of the draw at Lisa's new website - 'Cobblestone Cabin'...what a lovely name!
Anyway I won a beautiful Moda jelly roll called VERNA. By coincidence, that's my niece's middle name so sssshhhhhhhhhhh! don't want her getting ideas that it'll be coming to her as it's MINE....ALL MINE....!!!!! Hahahaha

Thank you Lisa - I'll be dropping in soon to shop for more gorgeous fabrics.

Leaving gift for a colleague

Hi All
Nothing to do with the PP, B&W Swap 2010 but as Bev leaves her job at the college next Wednesday after 23 years, I wanted to make her something of her choice. After seeing my friend's Doggie quilt that I made for Christmas, Bev chose a Cat quilt which she really wanted for her 2 black & white cats Ferdy and Cola. So here it is....another job done and ticked off the list!

Hi All
Here is my fabric swap squares for the PP B&W 2010 Swap. A lovely selection of white on black and black on white squares to create something new with. My accent colour for this swap is lime green Batiks. I'm practising blocks with other colours at the moment so watch this space to see my idea come together.......................
Here is my palette -

Thanks to everyone taking part and to Tessa for the little extra and the lovely hand made ribbon card.

Bookmark swap

Hi All
I have finally completed my 2 swap Bookmarks and also received two back from Swap friends here they all are....

From left to right - first one made for me by Cath; the second bookmark made for me by Caz; the third bookmark was made by me for Jan and I practised the use of embellishing on this one, (and Oops the big purple bead nearly caused problems in the delivery of this); and the final bookmark was made by me for Maggi (luckily the Paua bead on this one made it through the post undamaged).
Contrary to what I thought, they were easy to make and so, so quick too!
I can never have too many Bookmarks and I love the ones I received so thank you to my swap friends.
